Phase constitution of al-ni-fe alloys in a compositional range of decagonal quasicrystals formation

Abstract

  The phase constitution of Al70Ni145Fe15.5 and Al71Ni24Fe5 alloys was investigated by quantitative metallography, X-ray diffraction, and energy-dispersive X-ray analyses. A local chemical composition of quasicrystal decagonal D-phase of the investigated alloys was determined. The decagonal phases were shown to form either on the base of Al86Fe14 or Al80Ni20 binary quasicrystals and belong to D-AlFe or D-AlNi types.
