Multy-story wood construction: current trends and future prospects

Abstract

Summary. Construction which utiles timber as main structural material is gaining high popularity throughout the world. This is facilitated by the awareness of environmental problems and the search for solutions to them through the development and implementation of innovative materials, products and structures. Due to the advantages of timber construction from the point of view of sustainable development and the circular economy, recently many authors have been carrying out research and pilot projects have been implemented to study the physical and mechanical characteristics and performance indicators of multi-storey timber buildings. Purpose. To analyze and systematize data on modern developments in the field of multi-storey timber construction. Results. The main factors of the construction industry environmental impact are considered and the advantages of using timber as a structural building material for solving global environmental problems are established. The latest developments and researches in the field of timber construction are systematized; specific structural solutions depending on the number of storeys are revealed on the example of realized projects of multi-storey buildings. The brief review of scientific works on development and research of structural solutions of high-rise timber buildings is given. Practical value. The given data will promote expansion of possibilities of application of timber structures in national construction industry of Ukraine.
